When I read the news and contemplate life, I feel like the life I once knew is over. The terms “fake news”, “alternative facts”, and the constant lying to our face from the White house is extraordinary. It’s like: “How did this even happen?”
I remember only being in elementary school when 9/11 occurred. I remember the terror and the sadness that permeated the air. I remember a few years later while reminiscing about the 9/11 attacks, one of my teacher’s in middle school mentioned that only a week before she had been in New York at the Twin Towers. It helped to hammer home how real the people in my life could’ve been caught up in such tragedy.
The country has lived in fear since then. This Muslim ban that comes from the Trump administration on President Trump’s executive order is horrifying. People claim that it’s not a Muslim ban and that President Obama should be blamed because he and his advisers made the list. Sure, they made the list and tightened visa regulation by closing loopholes, but did they go against the Geneva convention and make an outright ban on people based on nationality? No. This is on Trump and his administration, and it’s traitorous to American values.
In an interview, Rudy Guilani states: “OK. I’ll tell you the whole history of it. So when he first announced it he said “Muslim ban.” He called me up and said, “put a commission together, show me the right way to do it legally.” I put a commission together with Judge Mukasey, with Congressman McCaul, Pete King, a whole group of other very expert lawyers on this. And what we did was we focused on, instead of religion, danger. The areas of the world that create danger for us. Which is a factual basis. Not a religious basis. Perfectly legal, perfectly sensible, and that’s what the ban is based on. It’s not based on religion. It’s based on places where there are substantial evidence that people are sending terrorists into our country.”
The fact that it started as a Muslim ban and does not even target countries where terrorists have killed Americans such as countries like Saudi Arabia or Pakistan or even Egypt are not on the list. Instead, one of the US’s allies against ISIS is: Iraq. Why? There is no justification for it. These 7 countries (Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya and Somalia) targeted have had less Americans killed than ones that aren’t on the list. What these 7 countries share in common? Their people are predominantly Muslims. According to NPR: “As NPR’s Greg Myre pointed out, the radicalized Muslims who carried out deadly attacks in the U.S., beginning on Sept. 11, 2001, came from these countries: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Russia and Kyrgyzstan.” Not one of these countries made the list. That should already be making you uncomfortable as there’s still no good reason to include these 7 countries while excluding other countries that have actually attacked Americans on US soil. Rudy Giulani knew he used a flimsy excuse, and it’s horrifying to know that people will believe him despite common sense and facts prove that the intent was protection – if it was, the list would include countries that have actually harmed Americans such as Saudi Arabia.
President Trump has endangered the US with this executive order of his. He has endangered the men and women fighting in our military right now and in the years to come. People will not trust Americans, especially those acting under their government. Iraqi interpreters who risked their and their family’s lives to help out American troops despite the fact that America had invaded their country have been forsaken by Trump and his administration, and that is sickening. Having rapport with the locals is important for the safety of our troops. If they can’t trust any local, it makes their missions much harder and likely put their lives in greater risk. There is starting to be no reason for foreigners to trust Americans.
Trump’s administration has antagonized many nations in less than half a month, and Americans will suffer because people ignored common sense and voted in an incompetent man, who hypocritically has and continued to do things that he bragged he would prosecute his opponent for such as using a private email server which he and his administration does, to the white house believing he would be better at governing one of the strongest countries in the world. People were fooled into propaganda against Clinton. What she did was not illegal. It even has precedent in President George W. Bush when he used private servers for his emails and 22 million emails went missing. But hell, let’s spend thousands of taxpayers’ money and waste nearly 3 years trying to prosecute a woman who wasn’t doing anything illegal in the end, and if so, there is precedent that there would be no prosecution if they refused to prosecute President GWB for it. Propaganda at its finest considering that Republicans are refusing to go after Bush for his emails. Remember folks, the ban on the use of propaganda was written and put into use by a Republican led Congress back in 2012 and put into effect 2013. Ultimately, Trump is turning the world against America, and we are now either seen as a threat or have become a laughing stock.
